I watched David Lynch's new DV film Inland Empire about a week ago. I found it, like much of his work, completley abstract and, needless to say, totally confusing. Unlike his past films where there is a pretty obvious divide between dream and reality, this film dissolves that wall into a little pile of dust, leaving the viewer's head spinning. This is exactly what I loved about it. He breaks every rule of cinema and gives no explanation to the audience. He leaves it up to you to "figure it out." Anyway, I pulled a couple frames from the 'lost and found' archives that felt a bit like Lynch. (At least to me!) (The first photo is a screenshot from the film.) _b

My Five:

1)

One of my all time favorite "breakfasts/lunches/dinners/snacks is Spaghettios w/ Meatballs. Damn I can't get enough of those little processed meat-wads!

2)

My junior high wresting coach nicknamed me "Sorgasm." I've never really been sure why but through out high school when girls would ask why that was my nickname, I just smiled and told them, "Why...? Well, Let me show you..." I was a nasty bastard.

3)

All I did in high school, besides being nasty, was rollerblade. I competed a lot and eventually got a couple sponsors in Southern California. They used to fly me out there to skate. It was a ton of fun. I planned on moving to SoCal upon graduation, but at the last minute decided to enroll in Community College in my home town. Stupid idea!! I could've had a TV show called "Sorgasm and BIG". Oh well, things have worked out pretty well. This is a tearsheet from Daily Bread magazine from April 1999.

I have a red/green color deficiency. Apparently there is a 45 buried in all those dots... (I hope this one doesn't kick me in the ass!)

My dog, Lola, is one of the smartest animals I've ever met. She is crazy about reading. In this rare and amazing photo, I caught her reading "The Photobook: A History - Volume 2". She is obsessed with Martin Parr!!

Mulder, Scully... help?

Dawn and I are heading to New Mexico for a little mini vaction this weekend. We decide to pick somewhere strange that neither of us had ever been to. So we are flying into Albuquerque, renting an "economy" car and checking the state out. So far the list includes: Truth or Consequences, White Sands, that big "grayed out" area on the map, and Roswell. If anybody has any last minute suggestions, please let me know. thanks! _b
