I've talked to Davey a couple times this week and he reminded me that I have not put any photos of him up recently. I found this one while scanning this afternoon. It's from one of many skate sessions in the western burbs. See you this weekend man. _b

skate-kids

I finally watched Larry Clark's latest film, Wassup Rockers, this past week. It was interesting how similar his experiences were with those kids from South Central, LA as my experiences have been with Davey and his friends. It motivated me to pull out a few images from the on going skate-kids archive to paste them on the blog. _b

a MATERIOUS world

I spent last Thursday photographing for "Materious", two very smart and forward thinking people. Here is an except from their website describing what they do in their own words. "As with the dual valence of materious, we are interested in the physical substance as well as the substantiveness of designed objects. Of special attraction is the domestic sphere—a space in which artifacts have a particular capacity for intimate engagement with individuals. Our work ranges from the speculative to the commercial—at times we aim for provocation and perturbation, while at others, sustenance and service. Despite diversity of intent, process, product, and use context, ultimately we wish to imagine new possibilities for human-object relationships." Check them out at Materious. PRODUCT placement

Local art ledgend's, Burtonwood and Holmes, have released their new book, PRODUCT Placement. The book outlines their adventures this past summer while they spent a couple very hot weeks in the "fishbowl" artist project space at State St. and Lake St. downtown Chicago. They covered the entire space with junk mail and constructed a 3/4 scale reproduction of an Abrams M1A1 MBT, the workhorse of the US Army.
