Counterpath Press

Counterpath Press is an independent, nonprofit, literary publisher that supports communities of readers and artists who are interested in linguistic and visual interventions in contemporary global culture. As a press it is driven by a broadly conceived mission, and it strives to encompass new conceptions of what compelling work can mean. It also strives to support writers and artists—including groups such as minorities and women—who are typically under-represented in mainstream outlets. They have been so nice to feature some work of mine on their "Counterpath Online" section. Check them out at Counterpath Press. _b

late nights and dim lights

Gonzales - "Piano Solo". 16 themes for left hand accompaniment and right hand melody; hear the influence of French piano style (Ravel, Satie) as filtered through Canadian folk and American jazz (Nina Simone, Keith Jarrett) in his-own unique creation. Throughout the album, Gonzales' former job as silent film accompanist shines through. I came across this album the other day on a shoot. You NEED to hear it, super sexy minimal piano melodies. _b

i LOVE scanning!!

After I was finished with my job this morning at 10:00 am (you gotta love those 5:45 call times...) I decided to lock myself in the Columbia College digital lab to do some scanning. God, was it boring!! I've never liked the post production stuff, but latley it has been brutal! I guess I just enjoy the shooting part so much more... anyway that's all, oh yeah that's my good buddies hott bod (crack) up top. _b

updates

The last couple weeks have been pretty busy, but I managed to get a few things done. I updated my website with some photos from my "Davey" documentary, also made another book which can be previewed here, and watched Powers of Ten from Charles and Ray Eames. A must for anyone interested in the space/time continuum... _b

Burtonwood & Holmes this Friday

This Friday 18th August join Burtonwood & Holmes for the opening reception of their brand new installation, PRODUCTplacement. The installation is the culmination of their residency at the Open Studio Program, a project adminstered by the Dept. of Cultural Affairs, City of Chicago. The piece features a 3/4 scale Abrams Main Battle tank, work horse of the US Army, constructed from cardboard and adorned with sales sheets from Jewel, Dominicks, Home Depot, etc. The installation is for a limited time only thru August 25th. If you can't make it to the opening the piece is visible from the street 24/7. They're planning a patriotic/rebel song sound clash for the opening and plenty of beer, so pop your head in after work and help them celebrate their most ambitious sculpture/installation to date.
